October 8, 2026
The busiest public gathering on the Sammamish calendar this month happens at City Hall. Pumpkins on the Plaza runs Thursday, October 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Upper Commons, and it's free. Dinner comes from a food truck that drives in for the evening. The plaza the Town Center plan promises still sits on paper. Meanwhile, a new street is being finished along the north edge of the Commons, and it will be the first finished piece linking the two.
October also makes the Plateau's own civic spaces easier to reach than the lake below. Three separate construction projects are disrupting routes along Lake Sammamish this month. The city's free events are spread across the Commons, Beaver Lake, and Sammamish Landing. The sections below fit them together.
The city's description of Pumpkins on the Plaza reads like a full afternoon. There's a scavenger hunt with a prize, an animal encounter at a petting-zoo station, and trick-or-treating at City Booths and City Trunks, with every other stop allergy-friendly. A King County Library craft runs inside City Hall, and costumed characters roam the plaza. The event page still says "Map to come," so check back for the booth layout before you head over.
The city lists The Cheese Pit for dinner. It's a mobile food truck and catering business that takes event bookings. Its online ordering points to 5600 Roosevelt Way NE in Seattle. So for one evening, a Seattle truck parks on the Commons and serves as the plaza's restaurant. Other vendors will have food too, according to the city.
That setup says a lot about where Town Center stands right now.
The City of Sammamish lists four Town Center projects as built: SAMM Apartments, Sammamish Townhomes, The Village at Sammamish Town Center, and Sky Sammamish. The other development projects on that page are listed as preliminarily approved, under permit review, or in site construction. They include the Southwest Quadrant, Brownstones West and East, Aegis of Sammamish, and STC Phase II. Sky Sammamish has 159 apartments and 13,000 square feet of retail space.
In August 2025, the Sammamish Independent laid out the first phase of the central development. It has three parts. One is a public open plaza surrounded by shops and connected by trail to Sammamish Commons. Another is the 86 Brownstones townhomes. The third is two seven-story mixed-use buildings with 88,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. The developer said then that work on those buildings would begin within two years and take three years to complete. That timeline is more than a year old. Nothing newer has been published that resets it. The city also says its update to the Town Center Plan should be finished in 2026.
Until that plaza is built, City Hall's plaza is where the city holds its big events. Pumpkins on the Plaza in October is a good example.
SE 6th Street is the physical link the plan depends on. The city is building a new public street along the north end of Sammamish Commons Park, between 222nd Place SE and 224th Avenue SE. It will have sidewalk, community parking, trees, lighting, and new stormwater systems. The existing rain gardens stay. The project also creates a connection to Lower Sammamish Commons Park. According to the city's 2026 public works overview, the street will serve pedestrians, bicyclists, and vehicles.
The work is split in half. Private developers designed and built the northern half, which the city describes as mostly complete. The city is building the southern half. The city's schedule had its construction starting September 8.
The finish date depends on which line of the city's page you read:
| Source on the city's site | Stated finish |
|---|---|
| SE 6th Street project updates | Construction "anticipated to last through October 30, 2026" |
| SE 6th Street project summary | Construction "planned to be completed in November 2026" |
| 2026 Public Works Projects overview | Estimated completion November 2026 |
The city's Cone Zone road-work page, updated October 2, has no SE 6th Street entry. So plan for possible construction along the north side of the park on October 29. Treat a finished street by Pumpkins on the Plaza as a nice surprise if it happens.
The city's other free events this month are spread across its parks and partner sites.
| Date | Event | Location | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thu., Oct. 8, 6:30–8 p.m. | Creative Connect: sew a Chinese hebao pouch | Lodge at Beaver Lake Park | Hosted by the Arts Commission with sewist Miki Hau, founder of WildCress. No-sew version for younger makers. |
| Sat., Oct. 10, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. | Native shoreline planting | Sammamish Landing Park | Volunteer registration through the city's event page |
| Sat., Oct. 24 | Evans Meadow Restoration | Evans Creek Preserve | Cancelled |
| Thu., Oct. 29, 4–7 p.m. | Pumpkins on the Plaza | Upper Commons, City Hall | Costumes encouraged |
| Sat., Oct. 31, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. | Hard-to-recycle items and document shredding | Eastside Catholic School | Fees are cash only, exact change. No vehicles admitted after 3 p.m. |
The Evans Meadow event still shows on the city's main calendar, but its detail page marks it cancelled. Go by the detail page. For the October 31 recycling event, the city says it will publish the list of accepted materials closer to the date. Wait for that list before you load the car.
The Sammamish Landing planting is the only event on that list at the lake. Getting there and around the shoreline takes more planning than usual this month.
All three projects are about fish passage or culverts. They'll be finished in time, but for now the lakeside routes are cut. Up on the Plateau, the newest place to walk is Evans Creek Preserve. A 0.83-mile pedestrian-only loop trail opened there in April 2026, the first addition to the Preserve's trail system in more than a decade. A larger project to connect the Preserve with the Williams Pipeline Trail is scheduled to open in summer 2028.
On the other 30 days of the month, the closest food to the Commons is in The Village at Sammamish Town Center. Metropolitan Market at 301 228th Ave SE has a full-service café, prepared foods, and seating. Chipotle and Jersey Mike's are both at 22704 SE 4th St. The Village's online directory also lists Papaya, Tanoor, and Zeeks Pizza. Check each restaurant's hours directly before you go.
Two spring 2026 openings are a short drive from the plaza:
Neither is on the Commons. A sit-down dinner after Pumpkins on the Plaza means a short drive until the Town Center's ground-floor commercial space is built.
Town Center projects like SE 6th Street are changing the area around Sammamish Commons one block at a time.
